Solar Electric System:
Q1: What are the major components of a solar electric system? (PV) A1: Major components are:
PV Modules, photovoltaic modules to convert light energy into DC electricity.
Inverters, it converts DC electricity into household power.
Q2: How long is the warranty? A2: PV modules have 25 years performance warranty, and everything else is 10 years.
Q3: How does it mount to my roof? A3: We use systems specifically engineered for the type of roof you have and it’s designed to endure up to 125mph winds. The system we use adds a nominal load under 3 lbs per square feet and protects your roof surface. For example, the solar array does not rest on the top of your roof tiles. It is attached directly to rafters for additional strength, and everything is thoroughly sealed from water with Silkaflex.
Q4: How long does it take to install? A4: It depends on the size of your system, around 3 to 5 days typically.
Q5: How big of a system do I need? A5: It depends on how much power you want to produce. It usually boils down to one of the following.
1. Completely cover the load. We would need to review 12 months worth of bills to more accurately calculate system size.
2. Employ a peak shaving strategy. We would calculate the system size required to eliminate the most expensive rate tiers on their bill.
Q6: Can I completely eliminate my electric bill? A6: Almost, however, since there is a minimum fee to remain connected to the electric grid, usually about $0.17/day or less than $6/month.
Q7: How much space does the system use? A7: A 400 kWh/month system uses less than 300 sq ft.
Q8: What kind of maintenance does the system need? A8: The PV modules should be cleaned at least every 3 months for optimum efficiency. No other routine maintenance is required. If you suspect a problem, please call us and we will come out and perform a through inspection.
Q9: I live in an HOA (Home Owner’s Association). Will I be able to install a PV system on my home? A9: Absolutely! California Civil Code 2473, also known as the Solar Rights Act, restricts HOAs and local governments from interfering with solar installations except for health and safety issues.
Q10: I see that the PV system increases my home’s value. Won’t that also increase my property taxes? A10: No. In order to promote the use of renewable energy, the state has exempted PV installations from increased property tax.
